Perhaps you have been considering other options for taking your business to the UK, especially since the Global Talent Visa is built around your personal track record and potential as a leader or emerging leader in a specialised field.

Not to mention how competitive the route can be, with roughly 900 to 1,200 visas issued per quarter, according to figures based on Home Office data.

So, what are your options if your strength lies more in building a business than in demonstrating individual recognition?

1. The Innovator Founder Visa

The Innovator Founder Visa is one of the most direct routes for entrepreneurs who want to set up and run a business in the UK. Unlike the Global Talent Visa, which focuses on an individual's achievements and potential in their field, this route puts the business idea at the centre of your application.

To qualify, you must demonstrate that your proposed business is innovative, viable and scalable. In other words, the idea must offer something different from what is already available in the market, have a realistic chance of succeeding and show potential to grow into national or international markets, including through job creation.

Having an idea alone, however, is not enough. You need an endorsement from an approved endorsing body, which will assess your business plan, your role in the venture and whether the proposal meets the requirements of the route. According to the Home Office, you need to meet the 70-point requirement before you can be considered for the visa.

As of November 2026, the approved business endorsing bodies include UK Endorsing Services, Innovator International and Envestors Limited. The Global Entrepreneurs Programme can also issue endorsements, but only to founders who have been invited to participate in its programme.

There is no fixed £50,000 minimum investment requirement when applying for a new Innovator Founder Visa. However, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funding to establish your business and explain where the money will come from. You must also show that you can support yourself in the UK. This currently means having at least £1,270 ($1,702) in personal savings, held for 28 consecutive days before applying, unless you qualify for an exemption.

The endorsement itself costs £1,000 ($1,340), while you must pay £500 ($670) for each mandatory contact-point meeting with your endorsing body. You will have at least two of these meetings during your three-year stay. These fees are separate from the visa application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge.

The visa application costs £1,357 ($1,819) if you apply from outside the UK or £1,693 ($2,270) if you apply from within the country. You must also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, currently £1,035 ($1,387) for each year of your stay. For a three-year visa, that amounts to £3,105 ($4,161).

The Innovator Founder route currently allows eligible applicants to apply for indefinite leave to remain after three years, provided they meet the settlement requirements. However, the government’s November 2 Earned Settlement announcement says the three-year route for Innovator Founder and Global Talent visa holders is still under review by the Migration Advisory Committee. Founders should therefore check the rules in force when they apply for settlement.
