THE ZANU PF Harare Provincial Women’s League adopted resolutions endorsing President Mnangagwa’s leadership and promoting women’s empowerment at an inter-district conference held in the capital on Saturday.
The meeting was held ahead of the party’s 23rd National People’s Conference set for Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province, from Monday until next Saturday.
It brought together party leaders and women from across Harare Province to deliberate on issues for submission to the national gathering.
Among those who attended were ZANU PF Women’s League Secretary for Finance, Cde Tsitsi Mugabe, who represented the party’s Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomona; Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Senator Charles Tawengwa; Women’s League Secretary for External Affairs Cde Betty Kaseke and Harare provincial chairperson Cde Barbra Mwale.
In a speech read on her behalf, Cde Chinomona said the Second Republic had demonstrated its commitment to women through various empowerment initiatives and infrastructure development programmes.
“The Second Republic respects and honours the needs of women. Your voices and views matter,” she said.
She encouraged women to use social media responsibly and refrain from spreading divisive or misleading information.
Cde Chinomona described the enactment of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No.3 as a victory for ZANU PF, commending all provinces for their role in mobilisation efforts.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Tawengwa commended Cde Chinomona for her continued leadership in strengthening the Women’s League and advancing women’s empowerment within the party and across the country.
He said the party’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind placed women at the centre of national development efforts.
“Comrades, this gathering reflects our commitment to the vision of His Excellency the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” said Sen Tawengwa.
“His call to leave no one and no place behind places women at the centre of our national development agenda.
“As we support his leadership, we must ensure that women in every community have opportunities to participate in building a prosperous Zimbabwe.”
Sen Tawengwa commended the Provincial Women’s League for bringing women together to showcase their skills and livelihood projects.
“This gives practical meaning to our party’s commitment to empowerment and demonstrates how women can contribute to NDS2 and Vision 2030,” he said.
Sen Tawengwa encouraged women to establish and grow productive projects in agriculture, manufacturing, trade and other sectors.
He also urged them to work together, share skills and develop enterprises that create jobs, support families and contribute to the national economy.
“Our support for the President must also be expressed through hard work and tangible results in our communities. As His Excellency the President reminds us, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.’
“Women have a vital role to play in that responsibility, and their contribution must continue to grow as we advance towards Vision 2030.
“May this conference strengthen our unity, renew our commitment to the party and inspire greater productivity.”
