Fuel reduction stack burning set to start at Table Mountain National Park

The Table Mountain National Park Fire Management Team is set to embark on controlled fuel reduction stack burning from 16 September 2026, with operations scheduled at the KJB, Tokai, and Kloofnek areas, contingent on favourable weather conditions,

This essential initiative aims not only to reduce fuel loads but also to effectively manage the risk of wildfires, thereby safeguarding both the park and the surrounding communities.

In a statement, SanPark emphasised the significant role these planned burns play in their fire management strategy.

‘These burns form an important part of our ongoing efforts to reduce fuel loads, manage wildfire risk and protect the Park and surrounding communities,’ the organisation stated.

The operations are meticulously planned and will adhere to all relevant permit conditions and fire management protocols to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Residents and visitors to the park are advised that smoke may be visible in and around these designated areas during the burning operations.

SanPark has urged the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution throughout the duration of these activities. ‘We ask visitors and surrounding communities to please remain aware and exercise caution,’ they added, highlighting the importance of community awareness during such operations.
