The Director of Public Prosecutions has discontinued charges against three people who were co-accused with prison warder Moses Aguyo, now on death row at Luzira Maximum Prison.
DPP Lino Anguzu withdrew accessory to murder charges against Peter Anziku, Peter Anziku alias Dickson Okwonzo, and Hellen Amviko.
The trio was on trial at the special criminal High Court session in Kiboga.
"I accordingly discharge you, A2 Peter Anziku, A3 Peter Anziku alias Dickson Okwonzi and A4 Hellen Amviko. You are now free and will walk home," trial Judge Jane Okuo Kajuga ruled on September 3, 2026.
Senior State Attorney Stephen Ariong told court that Beatrice Lenia, 50, the sister of convict Moses Anguyo who helped in his arrest, is facing threats.
"It is my prayer that the Court prevails on this matter. The three must be cautioned against issuing threats to Beatrice Lenia and members of her family when they get back home," Ariong said.
The prosecution also asked court to release a firearm that was part of the exhibits to Uganda Prisons to boost security at Kiboga Central Prison.
Court also returned Shs700,000, earlier exhibited as property of Hellen Amviko at the time of arrest.
"You have been released and you are free to rejoin your respective families but take caution that any threats against Ms Beatrice Lenia or any member of her family by any of you will constitute a criminal offence," Justice Kajuga cautioned the trio.
Prosecution had alleged that between February 23 and March 2026, at different locations in Uganda, the three, being relatives of Aguyo, helped him escape arrest after the murder of ASP Catherine Hope, PO1 Bright Akishuri, Sarah Ayebare and Salson Niwagaba.
