Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna will contest against 17 other governorship candidates in the 2027 election, according to the list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday.
The list, displayed at the commission’s headquarters in Unguwan Rimi, Kaduna metropolis, showed that 18 candidates will contest the governorship election on the platforms of different political parties.
Sani, who is seeking re-election, will contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while his 2023 challenger, Isa Mohammed Ashiru, will fly the flag of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Muhammad Jamilu will contest under the Accord Party (AP), while other candidates listed include Adamu Alhaji Ahmed of the Action Alliance (AA), Bawa Shehu Usman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tukur Rabiu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Idris Adamu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The commission is expected to display the list of candidates in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Speaking in an interview, the SDP governorship candidate, Adamu, expressed optimism about the 2027 election, saying he was looking forward to a free and fair contest.
He said despite his party being in the opposition, it would perform well in the election, urging residents to participate in the electoral process.
“We will do well as we expect people to come out and exercise their franchise,” he said.
