Dynamos midfielder Nathan Mutasa has reportedly been barred from training following an alleged confrontation with members of the club’s technical team, placing him out of this weekend’s Harare derby against CAPS United.
The incident reportedly occurred at The Heart Stadium on Monday while assistant coach Lawrence Mawulorm was overseeing training in the absence of technical director Aristica Cioaba.
Mutasa was subsequently ordered to leave the training venue and instructed not to return until Cioaba, who is reportedly attending a coaching course in Tanzania, comes back.
According to reports, tensions erupted after Mutasa allegedly clashed with Mawulorm and other members of the technical team during the session.
The confrontation reportedly prompted Mawulorm to end training early before the midfielder was told to stay away from the team.
Dynamos have not publicly released details of any formal disciplinary proceedings against the player.
Unnamed club sources cited by Zimpapers Sports Hub also alleged that Mutasa had previously missed training or arrived late without notifying the team manager or technical staff. The midfielder has not publicly responded to the latest allegations.
The reported suspension means Mutasa is expected to miss Saturday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium.
The midfielder joined Dynamos on a six-month loan from reigning league champions Scottland FC during the mid-season transfer window.
Although initially used mainly as a substitute, Mutasa had begun making a stronger impact for DeMbare. He scored and provided the corner for another goal during Dynamos’ 4-1 Chibuku Super Cup victory over TelOne in August.
Cioaba praised his ability following that performance but said the player still needed to work hard, remain disciplined and improve his understanding of the team’s tactics.
The coach had also challenged Mutasa to improve his mentality shortly after his arrival, stressing that every player would have to earn a place through performances in training.
Mutasa’s anticipated absence comes as Dynamos prepare to meet their fiercest rivals in one of the biggest fixtures on Zimbabwe’s domestic football calendar.
CAPS United won the reverse league fixture 2-1 in front of an estimated 25,000 spectators.
Although neither club is challenging for the championship, local bragging rights remain at stake as both teams approach the derby in encouraging form.
