Man robbed of N$56 000 at gunpoint at Oshakati

A man was allegedly robbed at gunpoint while depositing money at an ATM at Oshakati at around 10h30 on Friday.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi in a police report says the suspects allegedly ambushed the victim, fired shots, slashed his tyre, tore his backpack, and took around N$56 141 in cash.

The suspects then fled in a white sedan.

“It is alleged that the getaway vehicle collided with another sedan, and in the process struck a stationary vehicle,” she says.

The suspects then allegedly fired through the windows of the vehicle and forced the driver out, speeding off towards Okatana.

“It is alleged that the suspects moved into a waiting white sedan and escaped,” Shikwambi says.

The police say the initial vehicle was later found abandoned near a bar at Oshakati West.

Shikwambi says the firearms and knife used were recovered, but the cash was not.

She says no arrests have been made and police investigations continue.
