The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says it has responded to 1,409 road traffic crashes and rescued 670 victims across Lagos State in nine months.
The agency disclosed this over the weekend, saying the interventions were part of efforts to reduce casualties, improve emergency response and ensure safer roads across the state.
LASTMA operatives are deployed to crash scenes to rescue victims, assess incidents, divert traffic and prevent secondary collisions while facilitating access for emergency responders.
The agency’s General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening emergency response, intensifying public enlightenment and promoting compliance with traffic regulations.

He said prompt reporting of road crashes and collaboration among emergency response agencies were critical to reducing casualties.
Bakare-Oki noted that LASTMA personnel work with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other relevant agencies to assist crash victims.
He urged motorists to observe speed limits, obey traffic signals, wear seat belts and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy.
The LASTMA boss also cautioned against distracted driving and reckless manoeuvres, stressing that responsible driving was essential to preventing avoidable crashes.
He called on commercial transport operators, dispatch riders, private motorists and pedestrians to obey traffic regulations and promptly report crashes, obstructions and other incidents requiring intervention through LASTMA’s toll-free short code, 3367.
Bakare-Oki said road crashes often result in fatalities, serious injuries, economic losses and emotional trauma for victims and their families.
He urged road users to exercise caution and take collective responsibility for safety, adding that the agency would sustain its rescue operations, inter-agency collaboration and public awareness campaigns.
