Two security guards at the Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS), standing trial for the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old student with special needs, allegedly enticed her with food, financial support and a mobile phone.
The accused persons, identified as 72-year-old Adams Nyaaba Iddrisu and 38-year-old Elvis Adongo, are facing a charge of defilement under Section 101 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The allegations came to light after school authorities discovered that the first-year boarding student was in possession of an Itel keypad phone, which she reportedly received from Iddrisu.
According to the prosecution, the discovery of the phone prompted further questioning by the school’s Dean of Discipline.
During the questioning, the student allegedly disclosed that Iddrisu had bought the phone for her and subsequently revealed that both security guards had sexually abused her on several occasions.
The prosecution told the Bolgatanga Circuit Court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, that the alleged incidents occurred between June and July 2026 at different locations within the school.
The victim, described by the prosecution as a student with special needs, was a boarder at BOGISS and reportedly had a routine of charging her tablet at the school’s security room after evening studies.
Investigators allege that the two accused persons took advantage of her vulnerability during the period in question and engaged in sexual intercourse with her on multiple occasions.
The prosecution further alleged that the student was enticed with food, financial assistance and other items, including the mobile phone purchased for her by Iddrisu.
During further questioning following the discovery of the phone, the student allegedly identified several locations where the sexual encounters took place.
These included the security room, an area behind the school’s dining hall and a classroom in the Unity Block after evening studies.
The allegations were subsequently reported to the police on July 23, 2026, by Celestina Atuora, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic Affairs at BOGISS.
Following the report, the two security guards were arrested.
The Bolgatanga Circuit Court, presided over by Sumaila Nbache Ahmadu, granted the two accused persons bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 each.
