HARARE, Aug. 27 (NewsDay Live) — Quest Vitality Medical Aid is targeting Zimbabwe’s growing small-business sector with lower membership thresholds and flexible medical packages as it seeks to close a gap in affordable healthcare cover.
The medical aid scheme has reduced the minimum number of principal members required for small and medium-sized enterprises to join from the industry-standard 10 to five, a move it says will make healthcare cover more accessible to startups and smaller firms.
Quest Vitality Medical Scheme general manager Godfrey Mushonga said the informalisation of the economy had created demand for new medical aid models that reflect the financial realities of businesses and individuals.
“At Quest Vitality, we have identified a critical service gap in medical aid provision — the need for affordable, available and accessible medical packages with minimal shortfalls, providing access to a wide network of both primary and secondary healthcare providers,” Mushonga said.
He said the scheme was developing primary healthcare-focused packages and other flexible products to bridge the gap between the demand for medical aid and what consumers can afford.
Quest Vitality has also structured packages specifically for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, offering tailored plans based on a company’s budget, workforce size and healthcare requirements.
“We are redefining how small and medium enterprises access healthcare solutions,” Mushonga said.
He said the lower entry threshold would allow smaller businesses to offer healthcare benefits to employees without the cost barriers associated with conventional group medical aid schemes.
“This lower entry requirement ensures that even smaller companies can provide their employees with reliable healthcare,” Mushonga said.
The scheme said its strategy combines affordability, flexible membership requirements and customised packages as it positions itself to capture a larger share of Zimbabwe’s underserved SME and informal-sector healthcare market.
“By combining inclusivity, affordability and customisation, we are empowering SMEs to prioritise employee wellness without compromising on cost or flexibility,” Mushonga said.
