Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.43 per cent year-on-year in real terms in the second quarter of 2026, representing a modest improvement from the 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The latest growth figure, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), represents a 0.20 percentage-point increase compared with the same quarter last year, indicating a modest strengthening in economic activity.
NBS said the agriculture sector recorded stronger growth during the quarter, while the services sector also expanded. However, growth in the industrial sector slowed significantly compared with the corresponding period in 2025.
According to the NBS, the agricultural sector grew by 4.39 per cent in Q2 2026, up from 2.82 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
“Agriculture grew by 4.39 per cent, an improvement from the 2.82 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025,” the NBS stated.
The industrial sector, however, recorded a sharp moderation in growth during the quarter, expanding by 3.96 per cent compared with 7.46 per cent in Q2 2025.
“The growth of the industry sector stood at 3.96 per cent from 7.46 per cent recorded in the second quarter of 2025,” the statistics agency said.
Meanwhile, the services sector remained the strongest-growing of the three major sectors, recording a 4.60 per cent expansion in Q2 2026.
This represented an improvement from the 3.94 per cent growth recorded by the sector in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
