Mugerwa rallies Blacks Power ahead of ultimate test against unbeaten SC Villa

Blacks Power FC head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa has challenged his side to show fearless courage on Tuesday when they take on record league champions SC Villa at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The Lira-based outfit heads into the high-stakes Uganda Premier League encounter riding a wave of momentum after they recently snapped an agonizing three-match winless streak by edging a five-goal thriller in a 3-2 victory over a struggling URA FC side. However, the tactician is fully aware that Tuesday’s assignment represents a completely different caliber of difficulty.

“The game against Villa is an opportunity to test ourselves against one of the best,” Mugerwa stated ahead of the match. “We know how strong they are, especially at home, but we shall go there confident and try to win.”

Currently sitting in fifth place with 12 points, Blacks Power remain firmly on course to achieve their primary seasonal objective: securing division safety. While Mugerwa acknowledges that survival remains the core mission, a positive result against the Jogoos would send a massive statement to the rest of the league.

The visitors will have to navigate the clash without the services of Ivan Okello, who suffered a horrific injury in their last outing. In his absence, the creative spark and attacking burden will heavily rely on the duo of Michael Siwu and Innocent Maduka to breach a stubborn Villa backline that has only conceded three goals.

On the other side of the dugout, SC Villa manager Zeljko Kovacevic has warned his players against complacency. The Jogoos currently sit second on the log with 17 points, knowing that a victory on Tuesday will catapult them to the summit of the table, as current leaders BUL FC are out of action.

Despite their flawless, unbeaten start to the campaign, Kovacevic was brutally honest about his team’s recent performances, labeling their display in the narrow win over Mbarara City as “abysmal.”

“We played poorly in the last game but were fortunate to win, and we must improve because Blacks Power is a very good team,” the Serbian tactician remarked.

Villa boasts a lethal frontline that has found the back of the net in every single match this season. The home side will rely on the red-hot form of Frank Ssebuufu, Patrick Kakande, Ibrahim Kasinde, and John Asiimwe to maintain their unblemished record.
