Ghana participates in 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA –Ghana is participating with a strong contingent in the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as the biennial global chess showpiece runs from September 14 to 28, 2026.

The global competition has attracted players across the world, with the West African giants competing in both the Open and Women’s sections.

Madam Christiana Ashley, President of the Ghana Chess Association speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports said the contingent would give their best in the championship.

She expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for supporting the team’s participation in the global event.

The Chess President, also an International Arbiter, has been selected among the officials to officiate at the Olympiad, giving Ghana representation beyond the competition itself.

The Open team, captained by Philip Elikem Ameku comprises Candidate Masters Bernard Anhwere and Cephas Clinton Fomevor, FIDE Master (FM) John Kojo Hasford, Prince Akpa and Daniel Loglo.

The rest are Maxwell Kwasi Kporxah, Woman Candidate Masters (WCM) Maud Benson and Gertrude Banini, alongside Ridham, Sumya Ibrahim Dotse and Esi Dzidzor Dotse.

The delegation is led by Air Cmdr. George Arko-Dadzie.

The Olympiad provides Ghanaian players with an opportunity to test their skills against some of the world’s leading chess players while further raising the country’s profile on the international chess stage.

Ghana’s participation also highlights the country’s growing involvement in global chess, with the national team and an official both contributing to the prestigious competition.
