Police Arrest 33-Year-Old Housewife For Allegedly Killing Co-Wife In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, a 43-year-old in Bauchi metropolis.

The incident occurred on Saturday, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi, following an alleged domestic dispute between the two women who lived in the same household.

The police public relations officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Mondaysayin, aying the C Division Police Station, Bauchi, received credible information about the incident at about 4:05pm.

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly armed herself with a pestle and struck Jamila on the forehead, causing her to lose consciousness.

Habib said the suspect was alleged to have been acting under hallucinations at the time of the incident.

He said upon receiving the report, detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they documented the incident before rushing the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.

The victim, however, was certified dead by a medical doctor on arrival, while her remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The police spokesman said the suspect had been arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the incident was recovered as an exhibit.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The commissioner condoled with the bereaved family and cautioned members of the public against domestic violence.

He also advised families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members experiencing mental health challenges.
