Jacinta Ngobese Raises Concerns Over Alleged Attacks Involving Foreign Nationals

Jacinta Ngobese has criticised what she perceives as a lack of attention from the media, police and government to reports of attacks involving South African residents and foreign nationals.

In a strongly worded statement, Ngobese referred to alleged incidents involving Uber drivers and schoolboys, questioning whether the authorities were responding adequately to concerns raised by affected communities.

She claimed that Uber drivers had been attacked by foreign nationals and alleged that police officers intervened in a way that appeared to defend the foreign nationals. She also referred to reports that schoolboys had been attacked by individuals she identified as Pakistanis and Somalis.

Ngobese further relayed claims from community members that some foreign nationals had repeatedly mistreated South Africans in public spaces. The details of the incidents, including the identities of those involved and the circumstances surrounding the alleged attacks, were not independently established in the statement.

“Now here are stories of the experiences we constantly complain about as South Africans but where is the MEDIA?” she asked, while also questioning the response of the South African Police Service and the government.

Her comments reflect broader frustrations among some South Africans who believe that incidents involving foreign nationals do not receive sufficient attention from public institutions. She argued that communities reporting such experiences deserve to be heard and that the authorities should respond transparently.

However, the allegations require verification, and the conduct of individual suspects or police officers should not be taken as evidence against entire national or immigrant communities. Any reported assault should be investigated on the basis of evidence, with the same legal protections and standards applied to everyone involved.

The police have a responsibility to protect the public, investigate reported crimes impartially and explain their actions when concerns arise. Media organisations also play an important role in examining credible allegations and reporting developments accurately.

Ngobese’s statement adds to the ongoing debate about public safety, immigration and trust in South Africa’s institutions. Official responses and verified accounts of the incidents would help establish what happened and whether any action has been taken.
