50 officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have successfully completed the three-month Junior Course 25 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening leadership and operational capacity within the Service.
The officers were presented with certificates at the graduation ceremony held over the weekend in Abuja.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, charged the graduands to demonstrate integrity, sound judgment and commitment to the national interest in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Adeniyi stressed that modern Customs administration requires officers to possess competencies that go beyond traditional revenue collection, noting that effective leadership must be anchored on professionalism, accountability and responsibility.
“Leadership is not defined solely by the rank that you wear, but is demonstrated through competence, fairness, courage and the responsibility you take,” the CGC told the graduates.
He urged the officers to deploy the knowledge and skills acquired during the course to effectively respond to the increasingly complex operational demands confronting the Service.
The Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Dow Gaura, commended the officers for their commitment and dedication throughout the training.
Gaura also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernise the institution, including the deployment of digital learning tools and the development of strategic training partnerships with the Nigerian Army.
The graduation ceremony featured the presentation of certificates to all 50 officers, while the three best-performing participants received special awards from the CGC.
The activities marking the graduation began earlier in the week with a regimental dinner on Wednesday, August 26, where Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Suleiman Chiroma, who represented the CGC, charged the officers to demonstrate vigilance, professionalism and decisive leadership in their various post-graduation assignments.
He urged the graduands to translate the knowledge acquired at the college into improved performance and effective service delivery across their respective commands.
