Barcelona have completed the permanent signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for a reported £8.6 million (€10 million).
The Catalan club confirmed the deal on Tuesday after the 28-year-old successfully completed his medical, bringing his four-year spell at the Emirates Stadium to an end.
Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in recent seasons, with recurring injuries and increased competition for places limiting his opportunities.
The emergence of Kai Havertz and the arrival of Viktor Gyökeres further reduced his chances of featuring prominently in Mikel Arteta’s plans, prompting the Brazilian to seek a new challenge.
Napoli had also expressed interest in the forward, but Barcelona moved to secure his services.
Jesus leaves Arsenal after making 123 appearances in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 22 assists.
His departure had appeared imminent after Arteta confirmed before Arsenal’s Premier League meeting with Aston Villa that the forward was no longer training with the first-team squad.
Asked whether Jesus’ absence was linked to a possible transfer, Arteta told reporters: “Personal situations, whatever they are, I think it’s clear.”
Barcelona’s move for Jesus adds further Premier League experience to their squad, with the Brazilian becoming the club’s third signing from England’s top flight this summer after Anthony Gordon and Rodri.
The Spanish champions have also been linked with a move for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Alvarez, although Atlético have reportedly shown little willingness to negotiate with their La Liga rivals.
Arsenal have also been monitoring Alvarez as they continue to reshape their attacking options, but a move for the Argentina international is considered unlikely at this stage of the transfer window.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have continued to trim their squad, with midfielder Fabio Vieira completing a move to Hamburger SV, while teenage forward Ethan Nwaneri is closing in on a loan switch to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
