The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that outstanding promotion arrears for staff promoted in 2025 are expected to be paid on November 16, 2026.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that outstanding promotion arrears for staff promoted in 2025 will be paid on November 16, 2026.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 27, the GES said it was working with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to ensure that all affected personnel receive their outstanding payments by the stated date.
The Service explained that the Controller and Accountant-General’s payment system had been closed to allow for the processing of October salaries at a time when the necessary inputs for the promotion arrears were expected to be made.
According to the GES, the payment system is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to enable the required inputs to be processed and facilitate payment to affected staff by November 16.
The Service also assured staff that discrepancies identified in payments made on October 16, 2026, would be rectified accordingly.
Management expressed regret over the delay and the inconvenience caused to affected staff.
Regional Directors have been requested to communicate the information to all staff awaiting their promotion arrears.
This statement comes barely few hours after the Minister of Education told JoyNews that he had called teacher unions to a meeting to notify them about the challenge in paying some 28,000 teachers their promotion arrears, although some 52,000 had received theirs.
