DONE AND DUSTED African Giants Finally SACK Former Sundowns Coach After Matchday Disaster

COACHING BOMBSHELL! Young Africans Confirm Manqoba Mngqithi Exit After Costly Dropped Points

DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA — 24 OCTOBER 2026

Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) have confirmed their separation from South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi following a disappointing run of results that has increased pressure on the Tanzanian giants.

The announcement comes after Yanga dropped more points in the league on Saturday afternoon, raising fresh questions about the team’s direction and its ability to maintain a strong challenge for domestic honours. The decision marks a significant development for the club, which has ambitious expectations from its supporters.

Mngqithi’s departure is particularly notable because of his experience in South African football, where he built a reputation as a tactically experienced coach during his time with Mamelodi Sundowns. His move to Tanzania attracted attention across African football, with many observers eager to see whether he could reproduce his success in a different league.

However, the latest setback appears to have brought his spell at Yanga to an abrupt end.

Pressure Mounts After Another Disappointing Result

Yanga’s latest dropped points have added to concerns about the team’s recent performances. The club entered the campaign with expectations of competing strongly for the league title, making every result important in the race against their domestic rivals.

Saturday’s draw against TRA United proved costly, particularly because rivals Simba SC have been collecting points and strengthening their position in the standings.

The result reportedly left Yanga five points behind Simba, increasing the urgency surrounding the club’s situation. With the season continuing to gather momentum, losing ground to a major rival can quickly become a serious concern for a club with championship ambitions.

Although dropped points alone do not always determine a coach’s future, repeated disappointing performances can create pressure on both the technical team and club management.

Mngqithi’s exit now leaves Yanga facing an important decision regarding the appointment of a successor. The club will need to identify a coach capable of restoring confidence, improving consistency and keeping the team competitive in the remaining fixtures.

Attention will also turn to the players, who must respond positively to the change in leadership. A coaching departure can create uncertainty within a squad, but it can also provide an opportunity for a fresh start.

For Mngqithi, the development represents a difficult chapter in his coaching career outside South Africa. His experience and tactical knowledge remain significant, but the outcome of his Tanzanian adventure will inevitably invite debate about the challenges of managing one of East Africa’s biggest clubs.

Yanga supporters will now wait to learn who takes charge next and whether the club can quickly recover from this setback.

The immediate priority is clear: restore stability, regain lost momentum and close the gap on Simba SC before the title race moves beyond reach.
