“Sabrina can’t guard!” Angel Reese was heard saying this in 2025 during an Unrivaled League game. And tensions have seemingly remained high ever since. The most recent interaction between the New York Liberty guard and the Atlanta Dream forward hasn’t helped the situation. In the Liberty’s Semifinals Game 3 against the Dream, one interaction between the two players prompted even a broadcaster to give Reese a harsh assessment.
“She was at her ear the entire time, saying, ‘You can’t do that’ after the foul,” the broadcaster said, per a clip on X by Polymarket Hoops.
The clip shows Sabrina Ionescu walking up to screen for Marine Fauthoux, who was being defended by the Dream’s Isobel Borlase. Ionescu shoves Borlase as Fauthoux moves past the two and attempts a behind-the-back pass back to Ionescu.
But she wasn’t there to receive the ball, just as the official called a defensive foul on Ionescu. By then, Angel Reese had run up to her from near the basket and was seen mouthing words aggressively to the Liberty star. Rhyne Howard had to step in and move Reese away, while Jonquel Jones attempted to defuse the entire situation.
The score stood at 31-24 in favor of Atlanta with 5:56 left in the second quarter. Shortly after, the broadcast showed a replay of a previous moment that might explain why Ionescu behaved the way she did.
A few plays before the Ionescu-Reese incident, the ESPN broadcast showed a moment when Borlase was driving up the paint towards the basket, only to be intercepted by Sabrina Ionescu. Borlase, in an attempt to drive in, shoved Ionescu with her elbow, sending the Liberty star tumbling to the floor. The broadcaster acknowledged players had committed fouls in the respective plays, and also said Reese deserved a technical foul for her behavior after the second play.
“But here (Borlase shoving Ionescu), like, that’s an offensive foul, right? An obvious foul. And then Sabrina’s (screen) is a foul too. She’s moving. Yes, obvious offensive foul. But then Angel Reese is the whole time walking down the floor. That should be a T. That should be a T.”
The Dream won the game 85-83, with Angel Reese leading the team with 22 points, while Ionescu scored 12 for the Liberty.
