Abronye DC Claims Chairman Wontumi Is Seriously Sick in Prison

According to GhanaWeb on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has alleged that former Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is seriously unwell while in prison.

Abronye DC further claimed that the leadership of the NPP was reluctant to disclose Wontumi’s health condition to party supporters, raising concerns about the information being shared with members regarding the former regional chairman’s situation.

The allegation has drawn attention because Chairman Wontumi is a prominent figure within the NPP and has maintained a strong political presence in the Ashanti Region over the years. News concerning his health and circumstances in custody is therefore likely to attract interest from party supporters and the wider Ghanaian public.

According to Abronye DC, the party’s leadership has not been forthcoming about Wontumi’s alleged health challenges. His remarks suggest that he believes supporters deserve to know more about the condition of the former Ashanti Regional Chairman.

However, the claims remain allegations attributed to Abronye DC. Without an independent confirmation from prison authorities, Wontumi’s family, his legal representatives or the NPP leadership, it is important not to treat the reported illness or the alleged reluctance to disclose information as established facts.

Chairman Wontumi is one of the NPP’s well-known regional political figures. During his time as Ashanti Regional Chairman, he became a prominent voice within the party and was involved in political activities that attracted national attention.

His political influence in the Ashanti Region has made developments concerning him a subject of interest among party members, political observers and supporters.

Abronye DC’s latest allegation has consequently raised questions about communication between the NPP leadership and its grassroots supporters, particularly when prominent party figures face personal or legal difficulties.

For political parties, maintaining communication with members during sensitive situations can be important in preventing uncertainty and speculation. Supporters may expect party officials to provide accurate updates when information can be shared responsibly.

At the same time, information about a person’s health is sensitive, and any public statement concerning an individual’s medical condition should be supported by reliable evidence. Claims about an illness in custody are particularly serious because they can raise questions about the person’s welfare and access to appropriate medical care.

If Chairman Wontumi is experiencing health difficulties, confirmation from reliable sources would help establish the nature of the situation and whether any medical attention is required. Similarly, a response from the NPP leadership could help clarify whether it has information about his condition and what can appropriately be communicated to supporters.

The allegation has also renewed attention on the importance of transparency and accountability when political figures are in custody. Accurate information can help prevent rumours from spreading and allow the public to understand the circumstances surrounding such cases.

For now, the central development is Abronye DC’s claim that Chairman Wontumi is seriously sick in prison and that the NPP leadership is reluctant to disclose his condition.

The allegation requires independent confirmation, and further information from the party, Wontumi’s representatives or the relevant authorities would be necessary to establish the facts surrounding his reported health condition.

As the matter attracts public attention, supporters and political observers will be looking for a clear response from the relevant parties.
