Zim coach says Scorchers have other good players

Zimbabwe Women’s National Football Team coach Stella Gotal has said the Scorchers have other exceptional players besides the Chawinga sisters, Tabitha and Temwa.

The Croatian expatriate coach made the remarks during a press conference held on Monday ahead of yesterday’s 2028 Los Angeles Olympics qualifier between the Scorchers and the Mighty Warriors in Harare.

She was quoted by The Herald newspaper of Zimbabwe as having said: “I would like to say that we play against Malawi, not against the Chawinga sisters. Why? Because, yes, they are very good players, and their value in terms of African players is maybe the highest.

“I can tell you now, I didn’t speak about this before, but you can find everything now.

“Temwa, her market value is $1 million. Tabitha, her market value is $850 000. So, definitely, if their value is that big, it means they are very good players. They have good speed, they have good quality.

“But let’s not forget that Malawi also has other good players and it is a fact,” added Gotal.

“They have a player [Rose Kabzere] who plays in France for Montpellier, no one speaks about her. They have another player [Faith Chimzimu], who plays for BK Häcken [in Sweden], who compete in the Uefa Women’s Champions League.”

Reacting to her remarks, Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili said in an interview that his counterpart’s observations were “spot on”.

He said: “I agree with her that while Tabi and Temwa hog the limelight, ptobably because of their status and performance, we have other equally exceptional players who play a big role towards the team’s success.

“In fact, all of them contribute positively to the the team in different ways. So, it’s more about team work,”
