DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and the European Union (EU) have agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment as part of efforts to accelerate economic growth and contribute to the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050.
The agreement was discussed during a meeting that brought together representatives of EU member states, the EU Delegation in Tanzania, European business associations, as well as various government institutions and authorities.
Among the government institutions that participated were the Immigration Department, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), which play key roles in facilitating trade and investment in the country.
Opening the discussions, Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, who also served as co-chair of the meeting, said the forum provided an opportunity for Tanzania and the EU to assess progress made in improving the business and investment environment.
Prof. Mkumbo said the discussions also enabled the two sides to identify challenges facing businesses and investors and determine areas requiring urgent action to further improve the business environment.
He stressed that the government would continue to create a friendly, predictable and competitive environment for investors, saying the move was aimed at attracting productive investment capable of driving economic growth and delivering benefits to the country and its people.

For his part, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, said the ministry would continue to serve as a link between international investors and businesses and relevant authorities in Tanzania.
He said the approach was intended to ensure that international trade and investment make a meaningful contribution to achieving Tanzania’s development goals.
On the EU side, co-chairs of the discussions, French Ambassador to Tanzania Anne-Sophie Avé and Irish Ambassador Nicola Brennan, expressed the bloc’s readiness to continue serving as a key development partner for Tanzania.
The ambassadors said trade and investment would remain a major focus of cooperation between the EU and Tanzania, particularly in supporting the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050.
The discussions follow the Political Dialogue between Tanzania and the European Union held in June 2026, which laid the foundation for further cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment and economic development.
