Manhyia South MP Nana Baffour Awuah arrested by EOCO

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as investigations into alleged financial and economic offences continue.
According to EOCO, the MP voluntarily reported to its premises at about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following several months of efforts by the Office to secure his attendance.
The Office said Mr Baffour Awuah was taken into custody after undergoing the required investigative and operational procedures and is currently assisting investigators with the case.
“In accordance with those procedures, Mr Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds,” EOCO said in a statement.
The MP, who is also Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, is being investigated over allegations including criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences.
His arrest comes about a week after an earlier attempt by EOCO officials to take him into custody at the Accra High Court on September 23.
Mr Baffour Awuah resisted that attempt, describing it as an “unlawful arrest” and an “attempted kidnap”. He subsequently sought refuge at Parliament.
EOCO had previously stated that it invited the MP on two occasions in February 2026 to assist with its investigations, but that he did not honour the invitations.
Mr Baffour Awuah, however, disputed the claim, explaining that the February correspondence related to his former role as Senior Partner of his law firm and its representation of SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
EOCO said it would continue its investigations independently and in accordance with due process, while ensuring that the rights of all persons involved are respected.
“The Office will continue to pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine the available evidence and afford all persons involved their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws,” it said.
The Office has urged the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to take their course and refrain from speculation or drawing premature conclusions about the culpability of any individual.
EOCO said further information would be provided when appropriate and legally permissible.
