For Eastridge footballer Cohan Daniels, years of hard work and dedication have earned him an opportunity many young players dream of - a full football scholarship in the United States.
Daniels, a centre-back, has been accepted to Iowa Western University, where he will continue both his studies and football career.
Before he can begin this new chapter, however, he must raise funds to cover travel and visa costs.
Football has been part of Daniels' life since childhood.
He started playing club football at the age of six and said his family inspired his love for the game.
"I grew up in a football family. My grandfather, my father, and my brother all played football, so they inspired me to play this beautiful game," he said.
His opportunity came through UDB Africa, an agency that helps talented footballers pursue opportunities abroad.
Daniels was identified by one of the agency's scouts while playing in the ABC Motsepe League.
The agency arranged meetings with coaches at Iowa Western University and shared footage of his performances.
"They were really impressed and put an offer on the table immediately," Daniels said.
Daniels believes his leadership qualities and determination helped him stand out.
"I think what makes me stand out is my leadership and always being vocal on the field. I play with heart and determination. A wise man once told me, 'It's very hard not to be noticed when you are the hardest-working and the most vocal on the pitch,' and I've carried that with me."
Cohan Daniels draws inspiration from his older brother, who guided and supported him throughout his football journey, shaping his discipline, mindset, and love for the game.

While the scholarship covers his studies and football programme, Daniels still needs to raise about US$2 000 (about R36 500), as well as additional funds for his student visa and flights.
He has been hosting fundraising initiatives, including boerewors sales and raffles, but said raising the money has been challenging.
"The only challenge I'm facing is getting myself to the USA. We've been trying different fundraising initiatives, but it's been tough to keep up with the costs," he said.
Daniels credits much of his development to his older brother, whose football career was cut short by injury.
Looking ahead, Daniels hopes to represent South Africa with pride, win trophies at university level, and eventually play in Major League Soccer, the top professional football league in the United States and Canada, while also earning a degree to prepare for life after football.
"Once I get to the USA, I want to represent South Africa in the best way possible, both on and off the field," he said.
