The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged Nigerians to report suspected fake, substandard and unregistered medical products, as well as adverse reactions to medicines, vaccines and medical devices, through its designated hotlines, mobile applications and online platforms.
The agency said the reporting channels were designed to strengthen public health protection, improve the detection of unsafe products and enable timely investigations into reported safety concerns.
NAFDAC encouraged members of the public, healthcare professionals and businesses to use its digital platforms and dedicated contact channels to report suspected violations and verify the authenticity of medical products.
For adverse drug reactions (ADRs), including unexpected reactions to medicines, vaccines and medical devices, the agency advised consumers and healthcare professionals to submit reports through the MedSafety application, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Reports can also be sent to [email protected] or submitted through the e-reporting platform on the agency’s official website, nafdac.gov.ng.
To report suspected falsified, counterfeit or unapproved medical products, NAFDAC directed members of the public to use its Greenbook application, available on both Google Play and Apple’s App Store, or visit its website.
The agency further advised consumers to confirm that medical products are registered with NAFDAC before purchasing or using them.
It said consumers could check product registration numbers through the NAFDAC Automated Product Administration and Monitoring System portal.
NAFDAC also reminded regulated businesses and distributors seeking to recall products to comply with its mandatory recall procedures.
According to the agency, formal recall notifications must be addressed to the Director-General through the Director of Post-Marketing Surveillance.
The notifications must include the product name and registration number, manufacturer or marketing authorisation holder’s details, batch number, expiry date, distribution records, reasons for the recall and a proposed corrective action plan.
The documents may be submitted electronically through designated post-marketing surveillance channels or delivered as hard copies to the nearest NAFDAC operational office.
