Stop Attacking Kefas, Present Your Plans, Campaign Council Tells Opposition
Opposition candidates in Taraba State have been accused of lacking credible policy alternatives to Governor Agbu Kefas’s administration.
The allegation came from Agbu Kefas Re-election Campaign Council, which said that instead of complaining, the opposition should focus on wooing electorates in their electioneering.
The council’s director of Media and Strategic Communications, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, who carpeted the opposition candidates for always picking fault on Governor Kefas administration, challenged them to explain to the people what they would do differently if elected in 2027.
“Rather than relying on attacks against the incumbent, they should tell us what they will offer to the people of Taraba State. They should present a clear policy alternatives to Governor Agbu Kefas’s administration,” he said.
In a press statement he issued yesterday in Jalingo, the state capital, Bello said the opposition must go beyond fault finding and explain how their candidates intend to govern the state differently if elected.
He also accused the opposition of focusing more on criticisms and personal attacks against the governor than articulating concrete plans to address the state’s security, education, employment, workers’ welfare and infrastructure challenges.
Bello argued that, election campaigns should provide a platform for candidates to present their manifestos, outline practical solutions to public concerns and demonstrate their preparedness for leadership.
According to him, opposition candidates have yet to sufficiently distinguish their proposed policies from the development agenda of the Kefas administration.
Mr. Bello cited the performance of an opposition candidate during a television interview, alleging that the candidate, when asked what he would do differently if elected, focused on blaming the incumbent instead of presenting an alternative programme.
He said, such engagements raised questions about the depth of the opposition’s policy proposals and its preparedness to govern the state.
On security, Bello said candidates seeking to replace Kefas should explain how they intend to strengthen existing security arrangements, protect vulnerable communities and improve collaboration among security agencies and local stakeholders.
He maintained that identifying security challenges without providing practical solutions was insufficient, as they need to demonstrate how its proposed measures would improve on existing efforts.
The campaign council director, however, acknowledged that the opposition had the democratic right to scrutinise the governor’s performance, stressing that no administration should be beyond criticism.
According to him, effective opposition requires more than pointing out shortcomings; candidates must demonstrate their capacity to provide better solutions through credible policies and realistic implementation plans.
Bello also urged the Kefas administration to sustain its efforts to address public concerns and ensure that the promises of its Moving Forward agenda translate into tangible improvements in residents’ lives.
He maintained that the governor’s supporters believed continuity would enable the state to consolidate ongoing efforts in security, education, infrastructure, workers’ welfare and youth development.
