Young Warriors coach Marc Sanchez explains major improvement in his squad after beating Mauritius 4-1 on Tuesday

Young Warriors coach Marc Sánchez has explained the major improvement in his squad’s performance after Zimbabwe beat Mauritius 4-1 in the second leg of their AFCON U23 first-round qualifier on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe had won the first leg 2-0 at the National Sports Stadium before completing a 6-1 aggregate victory in Mauritius.

Sánchez was pleased with the progress his players showed across the two matches, particularly their improved attacking threat in the second leg.

He told ZIFA Media: “I’m happy with the performance that my players have done in both games.

“In the first match, we had more control of the game, but in the second game, we had more punch, and we scored four goals in the first half, while in the second half, we only controlled the game.”

He added: “The biggest improvement I have seen in the second game is the ability to score goals and attack well. The second leg has also been different because Mauritius tried to attack us several times.

“So the most positive thing is how they showed maturity in the game.”
