The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has inspected ongoing infrastructure and renovation projects at public basic schools across the Accra Metropolitan Area as part of efforts to improve learning conditions ahead of the reopening of schools.

The inspection, conducted on Monday, August 31, 2026, covered the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools and the Private Odartey Lamptey Basic School, where the mayor assessed the progress and quality of works and interacted with officials overseeing the projects.
At the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools, the mayor inspected ongoing renovation works on several classroom blocks and assessed the extent of work completed.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to providing a safer and more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers.
Mr Allotey announced that the Assembly would undertake additional interventions that were not included in the existing renovation contract to further improve conditions at the school.
He also announced that painting of the school blocks would begin next week.
As part of the additional measures, the mayor announced plans to install 20 streetlights around the school compound.
The installation, he said, would improve visibility and enhance security around the school, particularly during the night.
The intervention is expected to benefit pupils, teachers, staff and other users of the school premises.
The mayor further directed the Head of the Assembly’s Works Department to ensure that the school grounds are paved within the next six months.
The paving is expected to improve accessibility within the school compound while reducing the effects of dust during dry periods and mud during the rainy season.
The intervention is also expected to create a cleaner and more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The inspection forms part of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s efforts to monitor ongoing school infrastructure projects and ensure that renovation works meet the required standards.
The mayor’s announcement of additional works demonstrates the Assembly’s intention to address infrastructure gaps beyond the scope of the current renovation contract.
The projects at Aayalolo and Private Odartey Lamptey Basic School are expected to contribute to improved learning conditions for pupils and a better working environment for teachers and staff as schools prepare to reopen.
