An unidentified man found dead in the landing gear compartment of an Air Arabia flight from Tangier died from cardiac arrest, oxygen deprivation and hypothermia, a British inquest heard Tuesday.
A ground engineer discovered the body after the aircraft arrived at London Gatwick Airport on June 16. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and remains unidentified.
A post-mortem examination listed cardiac arrest, followed by hypoxia and hypothermia, as the cause of death.
West Sussex, Brighton and Hove Area Coroner Joseph Turner said the wheel compartment would have been extremely cold and contained little oxygen during the flight.
Turner formally opened the inquest after finding reason to believe the death was “unnatural.”
