Police have arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of a string of car thefts in Shurugwi, where he allegedly drove vehicles until their tanks ran dry and then abandoned them.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Friday that Takudzwa Moyo allegedly targeted parked, unattended vehicles, particularly Honda Fits, between September 2025 and October 2026.
“Takudzwa Moyo has so far been linked to eight cases of motor vehicle theft involving six Honda Fit vehicles, one Toyota Runx and one Toyota Nadia,” Nyathi said.
“All eight vehicles which were reportedly stolen in Shurugwi have since been recovered.”
Police urged motorists to protect their vehicles by fitting reliable tracking devices and alarm systems, and asked the public to report any suspicious behaviour around parked cars.
“Members of the public are also encouraged to promptly report any suspicious behaviour around parked vehicles to any nearest police station or the National Complaints Desk on 0242 703 6531 or via WhatsApp on 0712 800 197,” Nyathi said.
In a separate case, police have arrested Edward Bera (25) over a robbery on Stoneridge Road, opposite Amsterdam Cemetery, on 13 October.
Bera and two accomplices, who are still at large, allegedly pounced on a man as he repaired a puncture on his motorcycle. They made off with the motorcycle and cash.
