Shock Return: Former Kaizer Chiefs & Pirates Star Back In South Africa To Sign Mystery Deal

Former Kaizer Chiefs Star William Twala Returns to South Africa as 36-Year-Old Seeks New Club

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United winger William Twala is reportedly back in South Africa and looking for a club willing to offer him another opportunity to continue his professional football career.

The experienced attacker, who turns 37 in February 2027, brings years of experience in South African football and has also played abroad in Asia. His return could open another chapter in a career that has seen him represent several clubs in the country and gain valuable experience outside South Africa.

Twala is a familiar name among local football supporters, particularly those who follow the Premier Soccer League. Having played for prominent teams, including Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, he understands the demands and expectations associated with competing at the highest level of South African football.

The winger also enjoyed multiple spells with Chippa United, where he had opportunities to demonstrate his attacking qualities and contribute to the club’s performances.

During his time at Chiefs, Twala was part of a squad expected to compete for major domestic honours. Although his spell at Naturena did not establish him as a long-term regular, the experience added another important chapter to his professional journey.

His career has also included appearances for Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United and Free State Stars, giving him considerable familiarity with the South African football environment.

Twala subsequently explored opportunities outside the country, including spells with Erbil SC in Iraq, Madan Maharaj in India and Chittagong Abahani in Bangladesh. These experiences exposed him to different footballing environments and allowed him to continue pursuing his career beyond South Africa’s borders.

Now back home, the experienced attacker faces the challenge of finding a club prepared to accommodate him as teams assess their squad requirements.

At 36, Twala may not be viewed in the same way as a younger prospect with significant years ahead in the game. However, experience, tactical understanding and familiarity with local football could still make him an option for a team seeking additional depth in its attacking department.

A potential move would depend on whether an interested club believes he can meet its expectations and contribute meaningfully to its objectives.

It remains unclear which team, if any, will move to secure his services. No confirmed agreement with a new club has been announced in the information currently available.

For Twala, the priority will be finding the right opportunity to prove that he still has something to offer. Whether that opportunity comes from a top-flight side or a club competing in the lower divisions remains to be seen.

His return has nevertheless brought renewed attention to the career of a player who has experienced South African football at several levels and tested himself abroad.

South African football supporters will now watch closely to see where the former Chiefs and Chippa winger could land next.
