Ghana’s Ambassador to US Expresses Sadness Over Violence Against Javits Frimpong

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Amb. Victor Smith, has expressed sadness over the circumstances surrounding the death of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, questioning why one black person would inflict violence on another simply because the victim was not born in America.

Speaking on the issue, the ambassador highlighted the painful reality of discrimination against foreign-born individuals and expressed disappointment that someone’s place of birth could become a reason for violence.

Smith’s comments come amid growing concern over the death of Javits, who was reportedly shot while on his way to school in New York.

The teenager’s death has deeply affected his family and the wider Ghanaian community, with many people expressing grief and demanding justice over the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

The ambassador’s remarks also bring attention to the challenges faced by immigrants and their children in the United States, particularly concerns about prejudice, hostility and the treatment of people who were born outside the country.

For Smith, the fact that the victim and the alleged perpetrator could share the same racial background makes the incident particularly difficult to understand. His comments question the idea that a person’s nationality or birthplace should determine how they are treated by others.

Javits’ mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, has previously called for justice following her son’s death. The family’s demand has also attracted attention from Ghanaians who want the circumstances surrounding the shooting to be thoroughly investigated.

The incident has become a painful subject of discussion among Ghanaians both at home and abroad, with concerns extending beyond the immediate tragedy to issues of immigration, discrimination and the safety of young people.

Smith’s intervention adds the voice of Ghana’s diplomatic representation in Washington to the growing public conversation surrounding the teenager’s death.

As the family continues to seek justice, attention remains on establishing exactly what happened and ensuring that anyone found responsible is held accountable under the law.

The ambassador’s comments serve as a reminder that differences in nationality and birthplace should never be used to justify hostility or violence against another person.
