Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly planted by terrorists along a major access route in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The IED was discovered along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following credible intelligence received by troops of Sector 2, the military said.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the troops swiftly responded to reports of the explosive device and secured the area to prevent possible harm to motorists and other road users.
He said an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was subsequently deployed to the location and successfully disposed of the device.
“Following the operation, troops sustained aggressive patrols in the general area to deny terrorists freedom of action,” the statement said.
The military described the operation as another operational success in the fight against terrorist elements in the North-West, saying it demonstrated its commitment to protecting lives and safeguarding critical access routes.
The task force also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects and activities to security agencies.
It said timely information from members of the public remained crucial to preventing attacks and enhancing security across the Joint Operations Area.
