BREAKING NEWS: Putin spotted in Bangwe, Blantyre

... but not the Russian president!

A new factory in Bangwe, Blantyre, is attracting attention with two products bearing unusual names — Putin, an alcoholic drink, and Gondo Boss, a beverage marketed as a bedroom remedy for men.

Despite sharing a name with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the business has no stated connection to the Russian leader.

It is owned by young entrepreneur Gomezgani Chandiloza, who says he wants to make his products available to more Malawians.

Chandiloza describes Putin as a drink intended to help people relax after a stressful day.

He says the product has been certified by the Malawi Bureau of Standards and is available in Limbe and Blantyre.

But the factory has another product aimed at men seeking to improve their bedroom performance.

Called Gondo Boss, the drink is made from gondolosi, according to Chandiloza, who markets it to men who struggle to last long during sex.

“Ndika drink ka azibambo osafika three minutes,” reads its promotional message, which also claims the product is 100 per cent natural, has zero side effects and helps men stay strong and last longer.

Chandiloza says the drink can also be consumed like other beverages.

However, the claims about its sexual-performance benefits and safety have not been independently verified.

The entrepreneur says his business has created jobs for more than 20 young people, making it a source of employment as well as a new entrant in Blantyre’s beverage market.

A mini-survey at Limbe markets suggests that the two products are attracting interest from consumers, although the scale of their popularity has not been independently established.
