Desperate to become a mother
Dear Pastor,
I enjoy reading your column. I have a problem that I would like to share with you.
My husband and I have been married for three years but we do not have children. We are still trying. We have made up our minds that, if we do not succeed in having a child, we will adopt a girl. The doctor says that I am alright, but they have discovered that something is wrong with my husband. He has been told what he should do, but he does not always do what the doctors told him. He is a good man. But I am eager to have a child.
Most of the disagreements that we have as a couple are over money. I like to shop and I told my husband that, because we do not have children, he should not fuss when I buy shoes and dresses. People in my church say that I am always wearing new things. I tell them that they are too ‘fast’ and they are just jealous over me. My husband is a heavy saver. We have an account together and we deposit money in it so that we will be able to buy a house in the near future. We prefer to have one in Kingston where we live, but the homes here are very expensive. So we have to turn our eyes to St Catherine. My parents live in the hills of St Andrew, but my husband’s parents live in Portmore. I do not like to pay the toll to go and visit them.
My husband is a good cook, so we do not eat out much. I told him that, if he gets me pregnant, I would stop spending so much on clothes. He said, when he gets me pregnant, I would be surprised. I am eager to get that surprise. Tell me, Pastor, why should a two-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms cost $38 million? That is the kind of cost we have been seeing these days. How are young people going to manage? Keep up the good work!
Pastor.

Dear E.,
I knew a man who was living with his woman for years and he could not get her pregnant.
She told me that she used to laugh at him. But he followed the advice of the doctor to the ‘T’ and one day she missed her period. When she visited her doctor, she was told that she was pregnant. She could not believe what the doctor said. Hear this now: she was not very happy, because, all along, she was fooling this man. She had two children before him. But the man got her pregnant. They got a wonderful daughter and she is a professional today. She did well in high school, went on to university, graduated, and has a good job.
I mention that to say, don’t throw your hands in the air and say nothing is going on. Your husband may get you pregnant. You have only been married for three years.
Pastor
