Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first league goal of the season as Leeds United fought back from a first-half deficit to draw 1-1 with Brentford at Elland Road on Saturday.
Brentford dominated the opening 45 minutes and controlled proceedings, restricting Leeds to no shots on target. Their pressure was eventually rewarded when Kevin Schade produced a deft finish to put the visitors ahead before the interval.
Leeds responded strongly after the break, improving defensively and gradually taking control of the contest. Buoyed by the home support, Daniel Farke’s side increased the pressure in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence paid off when Lukas Nmecha sent a low cross into the six-yard box, allowing Calvert-Lewin to apply the finishing touch from close range and level the score.
The goal was the England international’s first league strike of the campaign and provided Leeds with a much-needed lift.
Brentford almost restored their lead shortly afterwards, but Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford produced an excellent save to keep out Igor Thiago’s powerful header.
The game opened up in the closing stages, with both sides creating opportunities as they searched for a winner.
Calvert-Lewin appeared to have a late chance to complete Leeds’ comeback when his effort was saved by Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, although the striker was subsequently flagged for offside.
Leeds continued to press deep into stoppage time, but Brentford held firm to secure a point.
The result means both sides remain unbeaten after two league matches, having each opened their campaigns with victories.
