Residents of Martey Kortey and Kramokrom in the Adansi Akrofuom Constituency are set to enjoy improved access to healthcare following the commissioning of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.
The facility was commissioned by the Member of Parliament for the area, Joseph Azumah, together with the District Chief Executive, Gariba Mohammed Mustapha, to bring essential healthcare services closer to residents of the two communities and surrounding areas.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Azumah urged residents to make regular health check-ups a priority and take advantage of government health initiatives, including the Mahama Care programme, to improve their access to medical services.
He disclosed that work was ongoing to install the remaining equipment needed to make the facility fully operational.
The MP also said accommodation had been provided for at least five health personnel to support service delivery at the compound.
The District Chief Executive, Gariba Mohammed Mustapha, described the facility as a significant addition to healthcare delivery in the area, noting that it would serve residents across the enclave.
He appealed to community members to take ownership of the facility, maintain it properly and cooperate with health workers to ensure its effective operation.
Mr Mustapha further urged residents to protect the infrastructure so it could serve present and future generations.
Some residents welcomed the commissioning, saying the facility would spare them the long journeys they previously made to access healthcare.
They said the availability of a nearby health facility would particularly benefit parents seeking urgent medical attention for their children, including during the night.
The new CHPS compound is expected to improve access to basic healthcare, encourage early diagnosis and treatment, and reduce the difficulties residents face in seeking medical attention.
