Makhaza shooting leaves three men dead in Khayelitsha

Three men have been killed in a shooting in Makhaza, Khayelitsha, with Western Cape police detectives now working to identify the victims and trace the person responsible, Cape {town}Etc reports.

According to the South African Police Service, the incident happened at about 12:30pm on Wednesday, 16 September, on Joe Gqabi Street in Town Two, Makhaza.

In an update issued on Wednesday night, SAPS said its Provincial Serious and Violent Crime detectives were pursuing leads as the investigation continued.

Police were initially called to the area after reports of a shooting and found a grey Toyota containing the body of an adult man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

A second man was found about 500 metres away, also with multiple gunshot wounds, while a third body was discovered in Tabang Street.

Preliminary information indicates the three men had been travelling in the same Toyota when another passenger allegedly opened fire on them before leaving the vehicle and fleeing the area.

Police have registered three counts of murder, as the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what led to the attack, remain under investigation.

The motive has also not yet been determined.
