Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has expressed grief over the death of former Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Ikot Akpaden, Comrade Etimbuk Daniel Sunday, describing him as a level-headed young man with leadership potential whose promising future had been cut short.
Eno made the remarks during a personal visit to the deceased’s family in Ikot Etim village, Ukanafun Local Government Area, to console them over the death of their son, who died while serving the nation under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in Enugu State.
The governor said he had met the late Etimbuk on a few occasions and could attest to his brilliance and leadership qualities, expressing regret that his potential would no longer be realised.
The visit followed an earlier condolence delegation sent by the governor on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, led by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Ekerette Ekanem, to convey the government’s sympathy to the bereaved family.
Eno, who visited the family at the weekend alongside the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, said he considered it important to visit personally to assure the family that they were not alone in their grief.
He expressed deep sadness over the incident, adding that the visit was intended to offer comfort to the family during the difficult period.
“We are here to see you and console you, hoping this could help to comfort you. There is nothing anyone can say or do to comfort you at this time. Only God can console you, for He is the ultimate Comforter.
“We are here as government. The whole state is heartbroken. The state stands with you and mourns with you. Whatever we can do to ameliorate the pains, we will do it. On behalf of the government and people of Akwa Ibom State, we urge you to be strong in the Lord,” the governor said.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the family and providing assistance to ease their pain.
Responding, the deceased’s father, Mr. Daniel Sunday, thanked the governor for his compassion, describing him as a caring father and leader.
He said the family had not expected the governor to visit personally after he had already sent a delegation of government officials to commiserate with them.
Visibly moved by the visit, the bereaved father described his late son as a young man with great potential and prayed that God would continue to strengthen and bless the governor for his concern for the less privileged.
Also speaking, Idem commended Eno for what he described as his uncommon love and compassion for the people, particularly his decision to visit the family personally.
He said the people of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency appreciated the governor’s gesture and pledged their continued support.
