Government has released K19 billion in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) education bursaries to all councils across Malawi ahead of the opening of schools this September.
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Malunga Phiri, says the funding will help needy students access education without delays when schools reopen.
Phiri said government expects eligible students to access the bursaries in their respective districts and report to school on time.
He said the initiative is part of government’s efforts to promote equal access to education, particularly for learners from vulnerable households.
The minister added that the bursary programme is also intended to reduce the financial pressure on families struggling to meet education-related costs.
Government has been using CDF education bursaries to support learners who face financial challenges in continuing their studies, with councils responsible for implementing the programme at local level.
