ICONIC Kaapse entertainer, Ready D, has swopped the radio airwaves for the megaphone of politics, joining.
GrandMaster Ready D, real name Deon Daniels, on Tuesday night announced his decision to join the People’s Movement for Change (PMC) as a supporting entity and made himself available as a potential Mayoral Candidate.
A founding member of legendary hip hop group Prophets Of Da City, Ready D says he is not going to a grootbek politician who make promises he can’t keep, but will work with what he knows.
Like the inspirational music his group created, his mission includes advocating for progressive policies and sustainable solutions that address systemic inequality, uplift marginalised voices and promote economic equity through collaborative dialogue, community education, grassroots mobilisation and political engagement.
The Lentegeur legend wysed: “These principles speak to many of the things I have spent my life working towards.
“I believe in bringing people together, creating opportunity and finding practical ways to improve the lives of ordinary people.
“So I think that it’s just part of the natural progression to aspire and aim to serve in a bigger and greater capacity and just to see how we are able to amplify what we’ve always done.
And for me, more importantly, it’s also to learn. I’m not going in promising people that I know everything. I know it’s a new space. I am fully aware that people are going to criticise me.
“You know it comes with the territory.
“And for me, as long as we remember who we are, where we come from and why we chose, you know, to take this part and to serve.”
With a presence in the entertainment industry and the growing spinning scene, Ready D says creating opportunities in unorthodox areas, for young people and small businesses will be high on his agenda.
He added: “We have tons of talent, but there’s nothing that is really unstructured. I would say that isn't clear for a lot of creators out there.
“I feel that something more structured needs to be put on the table and I think they need to be acknowledged.
“And we also need to see how we create sustainable jobs for people that become a part of those creative industries.”
