Keffe D found guilty of Tupac Shakur murder

Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas, the long-running murder case has finally produced a guilty verdict.

A Las Vegas jury on Monday convicted Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, of first-degree murder in the death of the legendary rapper.

Davis was found guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon and with intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang.

The conviction makes Davis the first person to be found guilty in connection with Tupac Shakur’s murder, one of the most notorious unsolved killings in music history.

Prosecutors did not claim Davis pulled the trigger during the September 1996 drive-by shooting. Instead, they portrayed him as the “shot caller” who supplied the murder weapon to the gunman.

The prosecution argued that the attack was carried out in retaliation after Tupac and his entourage were involved in a fight with Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, earlier that night.

Prosecutors also pointed to Davis’ own past statements, including a 2008 interview in which he reportedly told investigators that he handed his nephew a gun and identified him as the person who fired the fatal shots.

Davis’ defence team, however, dismissed his statements as exaggerated stories, arguing that his claims were unreliable and questioned why he had remained uncharged for decades.

Davis did not testify in his own defence. The trial featured testimony from about two dozen prosecution witnesses and three defence witnesses.

He now faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment and has already indicated that he plans to appeal the conviction.

Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on October 13, 2026.
