Atiku arrives in Sokoto for ADC presidential campaign flag-o

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has arrived in Sokoto State ahead of the party’s presidential campaign flag-off scheduled to take place at its state secretariat along Ilorin Road.

Atiku arrived at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport at about 1pm on Wednesday, accompanied by members of his campaign team.

He was received by his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former minister and Kebbi State governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami; Manir Dan’Iya of Sokoto; and other party leaders.

Thousands of party supporters had gathered at the ADC secretariat and adjoining roads leading to the venue to welcome the former Vice-President and participate in the campaign event.

Speaking with our correspondent, one of the supporters, Abubakar Yusuf, said alleged intimidation by the state government would not discourage them from attending the event.

Yusuf alleged that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps had been mobilised to block roads leading into the town.

“They mobilised the Sokoto Marshal and Community Guard Corps to block roads leading to the town, but we overwhelmed them,” he said.

He maintained that the supporters remained determined to participate in the campaign flag-off despite the alleged attempts to frustrate their movement.
