A man from Beitbridge has been denying his wife her conjugal rights because she is friends with single women whom he fears are a bad influence on her.
This emerged at Beitbridge Magistrates Court on Thursday when Stanford Jacobs (30) of New Medium Density, Beitbridge, appeared in court for assaulting his wife, Panashe Tagwirei (24).
Tagwirei told the court that her husband was even refusing to be served food by her because of her close association with unmarried women.
Jacobs appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Gillian Padzakashamba facing assault charges. He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody for sentencing.
It is the state’s case, as outlined by prosecutor Reason Mutimba, that on 24 August 2026 at around 7pm, Jacobs and Tagwirei were at their home when Jacobs refused to be served supper by Tagwirei. He allegedly told her to serve supper to “the people she was supposed to serve”.
Jacobs told Tagwirei he was not happy with her associating with single mothers. When Tagwirei asked if that was the reason he was denying her conjugal rights, and suggested they separate peacefully if he no longer loved her, Jacobs allegedly assaulted her.
He slapped Tagwirei several times on the face, grabbed her by the collar, dragged her and tore her blouse.
He then removed her trousers, leaving her in tights and a bra. A passerby intervened and stopped Jacobs from further assaulting her.
