Saleh Dismisses King Saha’s Claims That Uganda’s Coffee Was Stolen, Calls for Support for Coffee Industry

KAPEeka, Nakaseke District — Gen. (Rtd) Salim Saleh has dismissed claims that Uganda’s coffee was stolen, responding to lyrics by singer King Saha that lament the loss of coffee and other agricultural resources.

Saleh made the remarks on October 13, 2026, during the launch of the Uganda Coffee Group at Kapeeka Industrial Park in Nakaseke District, where he called on Ugandans to support efforts to strengthen the country’s coffee industry.

The comments followed references to King Saha’s song, which expresses concern about the disappearance of agricultural resources and their impact on people’s livelihoods.

In the song, King Saha sings, “Wano akamwanyi kaaliwo,” meaning “Here there used to be coffee.”

He also sings, “Wano akamwanyi kaaliwo nga tumanyi okukalima,” translated as “Here there used to be coffee, which we knew how to grow.”

The song further mentions vanilla, cotton and moringa, highlighting concerns about the decline of agricultural activities and the livelihoods that depend on them.

However, Saleh dismissed the claim that Uganda’s coffee had been stolen, describing it as a lie and insisting that the crop was back.

Visit UHRC Sponsored He used the occasion to promote the Uganda Coffee Group, a private sector-led initiative intended to mobilise capital, coordinate investments and encourage commercial production and value addition across the coffee value chain.

The group seeks to bring together stakeholders in the coffee industry to strengthen investment, increase production and expand opportunities for farmers and other players in the sector.

Saleh, who serves as Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, has been associated with agricultural and industrial development initiatives, including projects at Kapeeka Industrial Park.

Coffee remains one of Uganda’s leading export commodities and a major source of income for farmers and other participants in the agricultural value chain.

However, debates continue over farmers’ earnings, the role of middlemen and the need to expand local processing so that Uganda can capture more value from its coffee before it reaches international markets.
