John Paintsil reveals what he has learned from Carlos Queiroz

Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil has revealed how Carlos Queirozs discipline and tactical methods have influenced his approach as he continues his transition into coaching.

Paintsil worked with Queiroz during Ghanas 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign and is expected to remain part of the Portuguese coachs backroom team following his reappointment as Black Stars head coach.

The former Ghana international says the opportunity to work closely with an experienced coach has been important to his development.

I think it's good to learn from those who are ahead of you, Paintsil said in an exclusive interview with 3Sports.

He described Queiroz as a disciplined and demanding coach, qualities that have also shaped his own approach.

You know I'm a very disciplined person. He's also disciplined. And he's a hard coach, he said.

Paintsil said Queirozs well-organised technical structure also provided an environment where he could learn and exchange ideas about the game.

He's got a very good structure around himself. We always talk about the game, he added.

While Paintsil has his own coaching philosophy, he said working under Queiroz has allowed him to add new ideas to his approach.

He has his way of operating; I have my way of operating. But when I stand to coach, I have to fall into his philosophy, and work under him. But I have learned a lot, and I've taken more from his side, adding to mine, Paintsil explained.

Queirozs return gives Paintsil another opportunity to work alongside the Portuguese coach as Ghana turn their attention to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars are in Group C with Cte dIvoire, The Gambia and Somalia and will open their campaign against Cte dIvoire in Bouak on September 24 before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 27.

The GFA has said further details of Queirozs new mandate will be announced in due course.
