Mother nabbed over alleged abuse of 7-year-old daughter

The Anambra Police Command said it has arrested a 32-year-old mother, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, over alleged abuse of her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka on Monday.

“The Anambra Police Command strongly condemns the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl, and reaffirms its resolve to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.

Ikenga said the command received a report on the evening of Sept. 13, concerning alleged child abuse and severe bodily injuries involving a seven-year-old Miss Oluebube Ofoma.

“The prompt intervention of security personnel from the Ibollo community in Awada-Obosi, and concerned residents, led to the child’s rescue and the arrest of her mother, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, 32.

He said preliminary information indicated that the child was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse, including injuries reportedly inflicted with a hot knife. (NAN)

Ikenga said the command had commenced collaboration with the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Chinyere Onyekesi, to ensure that the victim receives urgent and appropriate medical care.
