YOU BETTER BE GOOD - GOOD Party mayoral candidates warned to serve voters with integrity or face axe

THE GOOD Party warned their mayoral candidates and councillors to serve voters with integrity and ethics or face disciplinary action.

The party named its mayoral candidates for Western Cape municipalities for the upcoming November municipal elections on Sunday at a press conference in the Cape Town CBD.

And in a show of commitment to the party's values, candidates signed a public pledge to adhere to the party’s ethics and code of conduct.

Party leader Patricia de Lille said: "We are looking for capable, ethical leadership.

“It sounds nice. But it’s what you do to be seen as a capable leader, to be seen as an ethical leader.

“We are looking for a certain standard.

“That’s why they must commit upfront. They can’t say afterward that weren’t aware of the standard.”

The pledge read: “I acknowledge that being elected to public office is a privilege, and that this privilege carries with it a responsibility to serve with integrity, to act ethically, and to remain available to the people I represent.

“I will never enrich myself through public office, and I will not commit, permit or tolerate corruption in any form.

“I will serve every resident of this municipality, regardless of their political affiliation.

“I accept that failing to serve with integrity, or failing to honour these commitments, will result in being subject to GOOD’s party discipline, including removal from office.”

The move comes after a GOOD Party ward councillor candidate in the City of Cape Town is facing serious allegations of domestic violence involving his wife and daughter, with claims that protection orders have been taken out against him.

His next court appearance is on 8 September 2026.

GOOD Secretary-General Brett Herron was confirmed as the party’s mayoral candidate for the City of Cape Town and made a plea to potential partners to battle affordability and housing crises in the metropole and gang violence on the Cape Flats.

Herron said: “There are key things that are important for us in terms of governance and changing the conditions in which people live.

“And those conditions play directly into our unsafe communitites are.

“Where communities experience violent crime, gangsterism and extortion is not coincidental; it is linked directly to the apartheid spatial plan.

“So if we want to see Cape Town fixed in the way that we would like to see it fixed be need partners willing to walk that road with us.”
