Soludo Has No Personal Rift With Obi, Both Are Defending Political Interests – Commissioner

Law Mefor, Anambra Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, says there is no personal rift between Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, and Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate.

Speaking in an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica on Thursday, Mefor said the relationship between the two politicians should be understood within the context of their political interests.

“There is no rift between Governor Soludo and Peter Obi. They are both in politics and they have their interests to defend,” Mefor said.

The commissioner said Soludo’s decision to work with President Bola Tinubu aligns with the All Progressives Grand Alliance's (APGA) longstanding approach of maintaining a working relationship with the federal government.

He recalled that Obi, who governed Anambra on the platform of APGA, maintained a working relationship with the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In January 2015, Jonathan appointed Obi as deputy director of the south wing of his presidential campaign organisation ahead of the general election.

Mefor also cited Willie Obiano, Obi’s successor, who worked with the federal government despite being in a different political party.

“Governor Soludo is just following the same policy. He is working with President Bola Tinubu. So long as that policy remains, nobody should blame the governor for following the policy that was introduced by Peter Obi,” he said.
